Acting responsibly in dealing with right-wing extremism in social work
The aim of this additional qualification at LMU Munich and FSU Jena was to provide future educators with opportunities to deal responsibly with young people who are at risk of and oriented towards right-wing extremism and to gain confidence in their actions. Simply excluding “right-wingers” generally solves little, but boundaries are still necessary in the work. But how can the classroom setting, youth facilities and their services be designed in such a way that they promote the development of democratic and open-minded attitudes? What is essential to ensure a respectful, civic framework for everyone? Which pedagogical approaches, methods, boundaries and socio-political topics have proven to be particularly successful for the work? Which support structures can be mobilized for the youth workers?
As part of the Hako_reJu project, an action plan for dealing with young people with an affinity for the right was developed to address these and other issues. In addition to a detailed intervention plan, this includes this series of training courses for students of educational science, social work and teaching. Practitioners from open and outreach youth work, experts from regional counseling networks and scientists from political science, (social) education, social psychology and the Gender and Right-Wing Extremism Unit were involved in the development. Together, interdisciplinary needs were identified, practical options for action developed and tested in practice.
