Advanced Training on Game-Based Learning

Symposium on November 16, 2023

In 2007, the German parliament declared computer games a cultural asset. But long before that, young people have been gambling on game consoles and PCs. Some of the older youth cultures, such as punk or metal, are currently no longer prevalent among young people. This is because many of today's young people are more digital, networked and communicative than young people were ten years ago. TikTok, Instagram and gaming are therefore among the new youth cultural activity fields. The youth culture approach of cultures interactive e.V. always refers to the current and medial realities of young people's lives, following the constantly changing youth trends and developing concepts for preventing and dealing with misanthropy and anti-democratic attitudes within their framework.

Nevertheless, parents and educators are increasingly concerned about young people who seem to be immersed in games, where they may be susceptible to violent and misanthropic speech. How can we reach these young people and engage in conversation with them? How can we access them through one of their most important youth cultures, gaming? What needs to be considered here from a gender-oriented perspective? Where are the points of contact for basic human rights and democratic attitudes? How can a process of personal - and also social - development be stimulated with the young people along this path? The project "Call of Prev" explores these questions and not only develops its own game with a corresponding editor, but also works out concepts for the pedagogical practice around gaming.

On November 16, 2023, the final conference of the project will take place in Berlin. We cordially invite you to join us to discuss the challenges of the three-year model project and to gain insights into the pedagogical approach. Of course, you can also get to know the game "Adamara" as well as the possibilities of the editor and try your hand at game design yourself. Furthermore, we would like to contribute to the further development of game-based prevention with a lessons-learned-panel. In addition to numerous professional inputs and discussions with experts from this field of action, there will also be time for informal exchange.

As soon as the conference program is fixed and registration is possible, we will inform you in our newsletter.

Training on Game-Based Learning

In the fall of 2023, "Call of Prev" will also organize a two-day training course in Berlin for educational professionals on game-based learning in prevention work. On two days, the project staff will present their concept of game-based learning, introduce the content of the topic and present some practical methods to the participants. As soon as the date of the training is fixed, we will inform you about it on this page and via our newsletter.
